Its alot, my hamster always had about 14. But how cute they were! Go to a pet shop and see if they'd be interested in buying some from you once there old enough. Look after the parent well and the babies will flourish, do NOT touch the babies and make mum feel safe and happy in her enviroment she will kill and eat all babies if she isnt happy about something, With a hormonal gerbil this can be anything.
All the best enjoy yuor new arrivals.

Before breeding gerbils make sure to understand what to do and not to do:
http://www.agsgerbils.org/Gerbil_Care_Handbook/breeding.html#breeding

Gerbils usually have 5-7 babies per litter. The male and the female raise the babies together. The first litter comes 24 days after mating. When a gerbil has babies the pregnancy is longer so babies are born every five weeks.

If you want to stop breeding remove dad and the boy babies into their own tank at just short of 5 weeks. Leave a female baby with the mom to help her raise the first litter.

Make sure the gerbils are not overcrowded. If you continue to breed remove the older babies into a nursery tank when or shortly before the new ones arrive.

In general , gerbils can have anywhere between 3 and 6 babies at a time but it doesnt mean to say they cant have more or less, they have so many becasue in the wild they would get eaten by predators. If you dont want any more babaies take the male out as they can reproduce again after having these babies!

Dont want to worry you but I won £45 in a jackpot quiz question "Whats the record number of mice from one litter". I answer 35 for a laugh and the answer was 34

I think they can have up to 12, but only a few will actually survive, maybe 5-7, I'm not sure
