Major "Grey Areas" with this question. Yes some brainwashing (coercion) is VERY illegal.
Brainwashing, also known as thought reform or re-education, is defined by Dorland's Medical Dictionary as "any systematic effort aimed at instilling certain attitudes and beliefs in a person against his will, usually beliefs in conflict with his prior beliefs and knowledge."

It can never be.. brainwashing is always done through indirect ways.. like through movies, video clips, commercials..it's sad to find teenagers accepting such things, it's a method of distraction in order not to think about life's complexity and drawbacks !!

No, not only condoned but encouraged in the public school system. Where how and what you think is more important than learning math, how to write a declarative sentence. And have a voice that is your own, instead of parroting a professor to keep your place in class.

that's in some countries... Muslim countries will prosecute you in case you attempt to "brainwash" someone into starting to be a Christian. "Brainwashing" isn't a criminal offense in the united statesA.....yet. The a procedures left, politically maximum superb 'police' may favor to make a regulation adverse to everyone who would not "toe the line" with their agenda.

There are various forms of brain washing, most of it involves lieing, omission of facts (Japanese students in Japan not told of he existance of WWII), mass pressure (group think) and repeatative sayings/images (say something enough and people will believe you).
That stuff they show on TV is just TV stuff.
