Astronomically, some Western countries consider spring to begin with the vernal equinox, around March 20 in the Northern Hemisphere

Apparently the Met Office uses the first of March as the start of Spring, but according to what I read recently, officially Spring does not start until the Spting Equinox on the 21st of March.

The 1st day of Spring is a woolly concept.
If you mean when does stuff start growing again, it hasn't really stopped this Winter, the grass is high & the primulas have been in in bloom all winter, & my Parsely hasn't stopped growing.
(I had fresh Parsely on me Crimble dinner!)

If you mean when does the Vernal Equinox happen, it's the 21/03/2007.
If you mean when do the Gods start frolicking again after the Winter, pick a religion!
The Equinox is a sound, astronomical basis for marking a change.
I don't know when BST starts, but the Equinox would be my guess. (Thats British Summer Time, as opposed to Greenwitch Mean Time, for US readers)

The first day of spring is around March 20th (Vernal/Spring equinox). Daylight savings was pushed back three weeks this year for some reason. I'm not sure why they did it, but it's not the official date for the beginning of Spring.
