yes, a scrip is required...if you need birth control, go get it...do not listen to the morality play of people telling you abstinence is best...yea, ok, real world: if you don't want to get pregnant, use birth control...there are so many options for women now! the patch looks interesting, low-dose estrogen pills are safer now, there is no excuse for an unwanted pregnancy in america, in 2007...if you are underage, i strongly wish you to speak with mom, or mom substitute....please, don't have an unwanted pregnancy because you are embarrassed! it's a lot more embarrassing when you waddle around preggers because you didn't have the sense to stop it...if you are catholic, you got problems...sorry!

Yes, you need prescription. There are pills with different dosage and of different quantity. But you have to take it everyday at preferably the same time, which can make it really hard to do so. (Personal experience - always forget as i have shift work). Besides there are other methods such as the patch or implant. There may be side effects on pills, such as weight gain or loss, headache, etc, which all would be explained by the doctor. But the main use is for birth control or some woman use it to regulate their period or reduces the problems such as cramps that occurs with their period. But if you use it for birth control, you would rather use condom.

i think it depends on were you plan to get it. clinics usually dont give prescriptions as long as your over 18 and doctors give prescriptions under and over.
