My first daughter did the same thing. I was so frustrated one day that I went out and I bought all of the pacifiers imaginable. We tried them one at a time and at first she liked the nuk brand but she ended up liking the gerber gentle flex brand. They start out round and then they end up flat. Well that's what happened for my little one. The baby can form them to the shape that they prefer. There are two sizes for this brand.

A little trick that I picked up with her is I gave the breast and then just snuck in the pacifier. Didn't always work at first but over time this is how she liked the pacifier. It did help her with her sleep though. When she woke up too, well when she was still drowsy I would try the pacifier too. Oh ya and a little bit of water helps in the beginning too. I wouldn't do this for too long though cause you'll be constantly putting water of the pacifier.

My second daughter liked the avent pacifiers. They come in all sizes and grows with your baby.

I would experiment with different kinds to see which one your little one prefers. You might want to go a little bigger that your little one's age. maybe it's the size that's stopping him from keeping the pacifier in his mouth. I wish you the best of luck and I hope it works!

My baby is 10 months old now and she NEVER took a pacifier. I always wished that she would but to no avail. My son loved his and took it from day one. He is three now. Some babys will take it and some will not. If he will take a bottle then he should take a pacifier. Every baby is different and you may have to try a lot of different pacifiers until you find one that he likes if he will take on at all.

At 2 months old your baby is going through a growth spurt. That is why he is nursing so much and I know that it is exausting. I did it with my babies. My daughter did start sucking her thumb at about 2 months to help sooth herself to sleep. If your baby never takes the pacifier he may start to do that instead.

As for your baby not sleeping through the night he shouldn't right now. When my baby that never took a pacifyer was 6 months old and I wtill was getting up at least once in the middle of the night to nurseher back to sleep I finally got out the pack and play in the middle of the front room and she slept in that for a week and we couldn't hear her cry so she was able to cry it out and sleep through the night after the week se put her back into her bed and she sleeps through the night now.

Hang in there. They grow up so fast.

I never got mine to take a pacifier because I couldn't bear holding it in his mouth while he kept trying to spit it out.

I have seen mothers hold the pacifier in the baby's mouth and the baby initially will fight it, but apparently, this is the way to get him to eventually accept it. I wish I had been more persistent, because my son has NEVER been able to self-soothe.

I am definitely going to try this method if I ever have another child, because breastfeeding them to sleep whenever they wake up is EXHAUSTING!

Also, try holding the tip of the pacifier towards the roof of his mouth to stimulate the sucking instinct.

Good luck!

My daughter never took one either. She always had her thumb for that...even before she was born! She was also breasfed too. Maybe that's part of the reason. Try rubbing the pacifier against his cheek, like you would rub your nipple against his cheek to prompt nursing. That might give him more interest in it. Otherwise, just be consistent in holding it in his mouth so he gets used to it. Oh, and another thing is if he doesn't take a bottle yet, get him started. That will get him used to the feel of a rubber nipple.

I know exactly how you feel my daughter was the same - they try to suck it like when they drink and their tounge flicks it out - For the first little while just put your finger on it when it is in there and just put it back when he spits it out, he will get the hang of it just needs a little training. I hope you get some sleep soon - All the best -
