You don't say what these folks are doing that makes them your rivals. If they are rivals because they are competing with you for revenue, projects, etc., then the obvious answer is that you need to do a better job.

If they are rivals because they are untrustworthy or dishonest, then you need to do a good job while watching your back - ensure you don't leave confidential information lying around, avoid gossiping in the bathrooms when you don't know who else is in there, etc.

Some people are just toxic and in that case it's best to be as professional as possible and avoid them when you can.

Good luck!

There can be no equal in merits and fitness at the workplace because of individual differences and of the Chief's preferences. Handling competitors is not an easy job as favoring one and eliminating the other on the score sheet, or favoring one over another by exercising your own latitude of discretion.

The course of action is determining actual performance that can deliver more advantage to the office/company in the aspects of favorable public image, profitability and sustainability. It is important to consider the degree of competence in knowledge, skills, attitudes and habits. Above all is one should possess courage to beat all odds and be able to harmonize relationships across all levels by maintaining the dignity of the rivals and the Boss especially when friendships are marred by frustration and heartaches.

The guiding principle is the vision of the company.

The best approach is to make your enemies be your friends and focus on your own business. Don't get into politics in a work place which will only lead to distruction of your own career.
