Schools portray values, which are voted for by parents and teachers on school boards. These valued are then exacted to the children.

Children with good marks adapt to these values. Struggling children are not adapting. To call the struggling children fools is blatant. They may be taught different values at home by recalcitrant parents who do not agree with the value system entirely.

Bottom line: You sound bitter because someone close to you suffers from poor marks. It's not the end of the world. But should the child have dreams of fitting better socially in our world, it's time for tutoring and mentoring. Hopefully the parents are on board with this.

No. Doing well in school isn't necessarily proof of intelligence. Just proof that you can function well within the system. Many geniuses didn't do well in school because they were radical & didn't respond well to cookie cutter classroom teaching. Some people think outside the box.

I did very well in school & was a straight A student. I worked very hard & won numerous academic awards. I'd like to think that I'm intelligent in some areas. But I'm quite foolish in other areas. I have the "book smarts" but have been a little slower in acquiring the "street smarts." True wisdom comes from experience.

No one is a fool. We all have different strengths & weaknesses. My strength was always in the humanities, especially Art & English, my weakness was math (I got 80% in math as opposed to 90% in everything else. But I remember sitting at the table in tears for hours struggling through my math homework until I wanted to vomit. As soon as I didn't need to take it anymore, I dropped it. I respond better to words than numbers.)

One of my ex boyfriends felt intimidated by my education. He was smart in a different way. He could build things, figure out how to fix things, he knew about the mechanics of a car. When it comes to those things, I'm a complete idiot! I don't know the first thing about cars because I was never taught anything about them & I never had an interest in it.

We all have something different to offer. We all have something that interests us & that we have talent in. So we're all smart in our own way.

NO! The school system has a flaw that measures the ability to retain and regurgitate the lessons they teach in the form of good marks. What it fails to measure is the long term retention of the same knowledge and the ability to put it to use in everyday things. Sometimes a kid doesn't do well in school, not because he is stupid, but because he is bored and his mind wanders during these lessons. It isn't until later in life that we each rally put everything we have learned to practical use in our everyday lives. To label some one a fool because they could respond accurately and in time to the questions under the intense pressure of an exam is ludicrous.

Do not worry too much, this may reassure you.

I got low marks at school, nor because of low intelligence but because i was bored and unhappy.
Later in life i have found that i have a high IQ and i am a member of Mensa... this proves that i am intelligent!

Also, intelligence is not proved or determined by knowledge. It is determined partly by the capacity of the brain to problem solve and understand ideas.

No...not necessarily. Some people are late developers, other people have learning difficulties etc etc. There are many reasons why some people get good marks and other people get poor marks......and none of them are particularly linked to intelligence.

I think many who get poor marks are because they don't fully apply themselves. I know someone who is a VERY intelligent person, but their grades were crap, literally. They wanted to waste time and drink and party rather than study.

Sometimes it's the best they can do, but I belive MANY are just Laziness and failing to apply themselves to their fullest capabilites.

Not all students who get bad marks are stupid. Sometimes they are just bored so they don't do well. There are also people who get all A+'s and are absolute idiots. Grades don't tell us anything.
