I moved in about a month ago. I paid a pro-rated fee and a month in advance. Now I'm being told that I have to pay a security deposit. When I first inquired about the apartment, I was told that I may not have to pay a deposit. Yet, when I was preparing to move in, they gave me a paper stating all the fees I had to pay and the section for security deposit is blank. It has a line drawn through it. I was told that I was not due to pay anything else until April 1st. I'm highly pissed right now. Now because I was one point from the score they required they want me to fork up $1210. Now why didn't they put that in my move in letter when I had to pay out almost $3000 to move in here. How can I fight this?

a deposit is not a "damage deposit"
i think it is a "damage deposit"
the deposit I believe that is striked out is referred to as one to "hold " the apartment..
deposit..has many places..and usually..written in front
"security deposit" is usually to hold an item........
earnest money that you lose if you do not..take the item..
a "damage deposit" is totally different.........
so the "security deposit" is stroked out because you paid all fees in advance.......and did not have deposit to hold the apartment so stroked out..as the item was paid in full...not a deposit and balance owing......
ask and they may give you a few weeks to produce the "damage deposit"
and write on the check.....in the bottom "damage deposit" and keep all your cancelled checks..

good luck

If you have a signed a lease agreement and the deposit amount is not included, tell them that if they harass you for something they excluded that you will see them in small claims court.

Keep up with your receipts but better yet, pay by check. This way if you're ever challenged about late payments, etc. you can show a copy of when your check was written by you, and when they cashed it.
