It hasn't been forgotten by me. I do not buy into the fear propaganda machine that makes us go to wars with countries that don't necessarily pose a threat to US interests.
Not all Americans are how you describe them, although, I must admit...they are everywhere. I try my best to wake them up from their self-perpetuated nightmare, but it's almost as if they prefer fear over peace.

In W W 2 we knew who we were at war with. We knew who the axis powers were. Now we at war with an ideology that cannot be reasoned or negotiated with. Like in W W 2 and the kamikazes, we are faced with the same type of mind set. They don't care if they die and kill innocent people. Just as long as they kill the infidels. They are in every country in the world and we have to take a stand and fight them. If we don't take the fight to them, they will most definitely bring the fight here. The present Administration has detected and stopped planned attacks, for instance the one that was planned on the Sears Tower and several other that were well publicized. This is an enemy that wears no uniform nor goes by any conventions. They hide among the civilian population and are not easy to root out. No war time President has had an easy job. Americans are not paranoid about terrorism. We are resolved to not let the slimy sons of a dogs behind get to us again. Irrational patriotism? From someone who is not American it may at times seem we are divided, we disagree and debate, but let tell you something, when we are attacked by anyone we will respond and we will respond as a unified people The American people love their freedom and no one will ever take it from us without a great loss to them.

Yes, I think you're correct. And I can't believe I'm in sort of agreement with No Chance here. "Higher Power" has many forms. The mass of humanity doesn't slow down enough to reflect on their own crown. I "fear" I don't allow enough time for my own inner-journies. The mass of society are plugged in to computers, iPODs, video-games, "reality" t.v., consumerism and they are poisoned from it... and they think that buying more stuff will relieve the emptiness they feel inside. I pity them for they are in a deep sleep. I didn't really wake up until almost 2 years ago, it took me selling out to a religious bunk-head and almost falling for the "house, 2 cars, 2.5 kids, career, super-mom" path. Using that word, G-O-D, is a slippery slope for me. My brothers have given me wisdom thru example, dedicated their lives to putting some of the pieces of the puzzle together and thru the "ever unknowable and incogniz..." OOPS! Don't wanna go there. There could be idiots reading this :)

Unfortunately, we live in the society of fear. We are told to fear everything.
Everytime Bush gets on TV, he reminds Americans about 9/11, and how many people were killed, and why we invaded Iraq, and why we should be scared of Muslims, and why we should be afraid of traveling. So I can't blame the people in this country for being scared out of their wits. Some others have moved beyond the fear and scare tactics put forth by this government.
Always remember, a country is its people, not its government.

I'm sure that everyone has heard of the quote, but in terms of believing in it and adhering to it's supposed message, no we don't believe in it and I doubt that we ever had. And that's good, because it's a dumb idea. There's nothing wrong with fear -- it's a natural human emotion and it is unavoidable. The only thing that's wrong with fear is if you let it paralyze you. Fear should stimulate us to act rather than paralyze us.

Nice reminder -- thanks. You're correct, of course. As one of FDR's greatest quotes, that should serve as our motto throughout time. By "reacting" in panic, we give the opposing force (whatever that might be) the triumph it seeks.
Could be "terrorists," could be political ideology, whatever. At the time, of course, he was referring to the horrible economy and the panic surrounding events during the Hoover administration, but even today, that quote holds great weight.

We in the United States take care of our friends, but destroy our enemies. We never forget. After 9/11, the world forever changed. We didn't start this, but I guarantee we'll finish it.
