Arch supports can make you more comfortable if you have flat feet and should do no harm. Get good ones -- Spenco is a reputable brand. My doctor says avoid Dr. Scholls, as they are not sturdy.

I had flat feet when I was a kid. The doctor told my mother to have me play barefoot and practice picking things up with my toes -- squeezing them, not hooking. She made a game of it, and I had a lot of fun and developed an arch in just a few weeks. I don't know if that would help an adult or not, but it costs absolutely nothing and can't hurt. Start with small squarish objects like a Lego brick. As you get better at it, try to pick up even smaller things. Smooth objects (like a AA battery) and flat things (like a coin or paper clip) are very, very hard, but even unsuccessful tries pull the muscles that you are trying to exercise.

Good luck!

Arch supports are the way to go to aleviate pain or discomfort, but not correct your naturally flat feet!

You'll need to remedy any discomfort issues with insoles, specially made socks, or shoes built specifically to maintain the crucial arch. Otherwise, the distribution of weight will be off balance in your flat feet and it could eventual lead to feet/ankle/back/hip problems, and even cause arthritis.

Take care of those feet man, they're your livelihood!
