put it in a bag / pillowcase. sprinkle a liberal amount of bicarbonate of soda in it. fasten the bag up, give it a good shake, and then leave it for at least 24 hrs. the bicarbonate of soda should help absorb some of the odours.

I have just the remedy for your smelly jacket, just sponge the jacket down with 1/4 cup of White Vinegar to a bucket or sink of water fill bucket with water to about 1/2 then sponge down your beloved leather jacket then rinse, then apply the Vinegar solution again, then rinse once more and hang to dry some place out of direct sunlight as heat can damage leather, but the Vinegar will condition and clean leather and remove odors, you can do this occasionally or when it gets heavily soiled. Good Luck !

Hi,
I suppose the obvious answer is 'buy a plastic one'.
However, if you really find the smell of leather objectionable (why did you buy it?) probably the best way to release some of the smell is to (as one of the answerers has suggested) dust it with bicarbonate of soda and then WEAR it, while outside. The fresh air will eventually tone down the smell.
New leather does have a smell (which most people find pleasant) but it will fade with time. (and the bicarb. does absorb all kinds of smells, which is why it is used to absorb 'bad' smells in refrigerators)
Hope that helps ease your mind (and your nose)

you can put it in a bag with crumpled up newpaper- for a few days-it should absorb the odor-- charcoal may work - but you dont want it to touch the jacket-- that should help-- i like the smell of leather- but it should not be bad--D
