because the people who like to tell us what to do over here in the uk are muppets! not to sound racist but where i live we cant even hang a flag for st georges day because it is a multicultural community and other cultures have been known to complain about it. sad isnt it?

Oh please. Do you have any idea how few holidays Americans get? Stop complaining. I think that they tabulated that the average American puts in 200-300 more hours at work (due to less holiday time) per year than the average European. You have a bank holiday every other week.
Besides, the Irish did invent St Pats and Halloween, so you just need to be clever and start coming up with holidays yourselves :) Can't blame them for celebrating well, rather than poorly

If St. George had got rid of all the dragons instead of concentrating on just the one, then he might have a public holiday. Anyway, ye don't drink like us irish so it would just be a waste of a holiday.

Ireland isn't part of the UK. Northern Ireland is.
And St. George is only the patron St. of England, not the UK..

Its true, we do, but the Halloween one is not really for Halloween, its always the last Monday in Oct, if there wasn't one there then there would be no bank holiday from August to December, which is a big stretch, so I think you should lobby for a bank holiday then. (instead of having 2 in May for example).
The debate about a day for the UK comes up every year near Paddys day, so you'd think your politicians would listen by now.
good luck with it.

Because English don't know how to celebrate and are not patriotic enough.
We should make more of St Georges Day, and learn a lesson from our Irish friends.

Because St. George just killed a dragon, but didn't bother with driving any snakes out. Hey, the Irish are special and everyone knows that.

why should uk have day off for St Georges Day? England perhaps but not whole country. Wales and Scotland could have a day off for their patron saint too.

What do you mean the U.K Scotland & Wales DONOT want to celebrate St.George, why would we?? Us Scots celebrate St.Andrew but the English Don't celebrate St.George so maybe that's why you don't get a holiday because nobody actually cares about St.George and only about trying to get an extra day off work!!!!

Because all the prices are artificially high here because we have never been emancipated from the system of privilege that ensures the majority of us stay poor and we are in bondage to the wage labour system and the wishes of the affluent.
