Since its cheaper to buy a 320gb internal + HDD casing i'm wondering if there are any reliability issues..
Since the same config will cost atleast 5000rs more if I go for a Seagate or Iomega external....
Don't mind payin extra cost if there are very serious reliability issues.

Sure it sounds nice to lug 0.3 TB+ of POWERFUL space like a 320MB HDD...but, you may lose the benifits of USB BUS POWER if you go past a certain point; after this, you are REQUIRED to have an external power source (a bummer for a laptop ext hdd). So, make sure you get a slim HDD for your external with the right capacity. P.S.: the external HDDs are really hard drives in cases. I break them apart all of the time when we run out of spare laptop and desktop drives. Enclosures are just a reliable as branded.

now if you go for the 5.5 hdd and an external case that makes it very bulky to carry around

I have the 3.5 laptop hdd in a small external case, which will slip into my pocket or the laptop case, but the very big gig drives are expensive I have the 120 gig samsug 3.5 hdd

your choice but go for the 3.5 laptop drives more durable because they are make for mobility anyway

by the way the more you have on a external HDD the more you lose should it go down,, Buy a external DVD dual layer rewriter and a smaller 3.5 external hdd and save files to the dvd disk that way you will never lose your data once saved to DVD

Hi Sushil,

I understand that money matters a lot but hey, then I give equal importance to after-sales service! So, i strongly suggest that you go for a branded one with casing. Why?? Because first: its a brand so you know who to catch in case of trouble....second: you will have a long warranty period upto 3 years. Now, i have seen a very good deal at rediff shopping : Samsung 300 GB HD & Casing....Rs.6000+ cost.....option to pay it off in 3 months for just Rs.2083 pm. Tk cr.
