Its relationship to humanity is characterized through hopelessness and humor.

Read Harold Pinter's "The Homecoming", Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead," and the most significant one, Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot."
There is even a book entitled "Theater of the Absurd", but I'm drawing a blank on the author.

EDIT: I want to say Esslin. He coined the phrase "absurdist" so we can assume he knows what he's talking about.

I happen to love theatre of the absurd. It's one of my favorite genres. In high school we did a lot of theatre of the absurd.

For Some suggestions:
Actor's Nightmere (one act) and Skin of Our Teeth
and for a musical
The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

And as much for relationship with humanity... I'm not really sure how to phrase it, but each one carries out a message that relates to all humans.

For instance in Skin Of Our Teeth, it's basically saying that if you truely listen to what's your gut instinct you can survive anything by the skin of your teeth.

I'm not sure if this truely helps, but much luck!

Have you read or seen any Theatre of the Absurd? It is 50 years old now. Beckett, Albee and Simpson are three of the masters of the genre. Read some, you'll enjoy it.
