My exclusively breastfed 10 week old daughter spits up/throws up a lot. I've tried burping and keeping her upright as much as possible. It's not working.
I'm going to try dairy elimination for a while. How long should it take to make a difference, if it is going to? Do I need to avoid everything with even a tiny bit of dairy in it? (say a baked good using milk in it?)

eta - I don't have a ped (they are typically for referral cases only in Canada, it seems.) We don't have a family doctor, because apparently nobody accepts new patients *eyeroll* We are trying tog et in to see someone, but who knows how long that will take.
I would take calcium supplements and make up for whatever I'd lose from dairy in other food groups, of course.
She spits up excessively. Every time she eats, and not just a little bit. Often projectile.
Dairy sensitivity runs in my family.

It can take up to 3 weeks to get all the casein out of your system. I saw an improvment with my son in about 3 days, though. (he had congestion issues)
You need to eliminate ALL of it. Everything, anything that says 'whey'... any baked goods made with milk. If and when you see an improvment, you can test her sensativity by reintroducing things like butter and baked goods... some infants can tolerate small amounts, some can't.
Its all trial and error. And i know how hard it seems right now... but it gets easier. If you need any tips or substitutes, let me know... im off to make some pancakes with rice milk :) yum!

I would say none for at least a week, see how she does. I believe you could eat something that was a baked good with milk in it, ect. Probably not a mac and cheese casserole with milk in it though...
I would just like to say I have a exclusivly breastfed 5 month old, and he has spit up badly since birth.. Breastfed babies can spit up just like formula fed. Ive brought it up to my doctors and he is gaining weight (5 months and weighs 17 lbs!!) so they are not concerned. As long as you can see she is gaining weight, and she isnt FUSSY or acting as if she is in pain, spitting up looks like alot more then it is (I had 1 of my twins also be a cronic spitter) and she will be fine. See how she is acting. If no fussiness is coming with it, and there is weight gain, I wouldnt worry to much about it, they grow out of it!

you could also try watching the other foods that you eat, they could be giving her gas. are you still taking the prenatal supplements or and iron pills? if so this could also be the culprit. as the other posters have stated keep an eye on her weight and eating habits. my daughter did this as well, she was bottle fed. it was like 2 oz in 8 oz out projectile vomiting exorcist like spit up...only thing missing was the head spinning :) her doc thought she may have GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disorder)it turned out she was just intolerant to the amount of iron in the formula. she wasn't gaining the proper amount of weight until the doctor had us supplement the formula with cereal. you can always try pumping and making up a bowl of rice cereal for her and see if that helps (after all else has failed) you can always take her to an ER if she hasn't been gaining any weight, just to make sure there aren't any serious medical conditions causing it.
other things you can avoid are bathing after feeding and try letting her sleep in a carrier seat in the upright position after feeding and also avoid swaying like movements (swing)for atleast an hour after feeding her.

hi. the main undemanding allergens to do away with are gluten (which contains wheat, rye, barley and oats), dairy, peanuts and soy. COrn is each and every so often elimnated additionally. Is the toddler having any abdomen themes or something to boot the eczema? because of the fact there is an particularly particular sort of rash called "Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH) is an significant linked disease or hassle of celiac ailment that's manifested in the type of a epidermis rash." A dermatologist can biopsy the open rash and attempt it to work out if it is DH. no remember if it extremely is, then the youngster extra than likely has Celiac ailment and additionally you will might desire to be on a gluten loose nutrition plan as long as you breastfeed and once you introduce meals different than breastmilk, the youngster will might desire to be gluten loose. If the toddler does have Celiac, you may desire to get your self and your better half examined because of the fact CD is extermely genetic and it is probable considered one of you has it, or a minimum of contains the genes. Its no longer something to be petrified of in spite of the shown fact that, its an autoimmune ailment yet very very undemanding and whilst dealt with wtih the GF nutrition plan, the guy lives an prolonged and healthful and chuffed known existence. additionally, being as infants can get very virtually something, it must be the detergent, it must be some thing you consume it is aggrivating the toddler, it must be an surely allergy. i might propose seeing a rfile bc if u do any removal nutrition plan, and u nevertheless dont have an answer, the rfile is gonna choose the toddler to be getting uncovered to the meals (by your breastmilk or eating them himself) to diagnose him precise so which you will might desire to reintrudoce the meals. Celiac could be examined by genetic sorting out which doesnt contain seeing a rfile, u do exactly an at domicile attempt, yet clinical docs dont extremely nicely known that kind of sorting out and frown on it (bc they arent making any money off it, and it doesnt tell them if u have an energetic case of CD, it in basic terms tells u if u carry the genes.) stable good fortune and be at liberty to digital mail me with any further questions.

Before I provide any answer, why do you want to avoid dairy? Is this idea from a doctor? I've never heard of this method.
Why don't you talk to your pediatrician first before you do this. She might have even better suggestions.
I breat fed my three kids and they seldom spit up. I know some food like broccoli can make breast-fed babies gassy. If you really have no dairy food, be sure you take enough protein for yourself and the baby.

My kids spit up a lot too. That's just what babies do. I tried eliminating dairy, but it didn't change anything. Very few children have a milk allergy, but every mom thinks that is what is wrong with their baby. I wouldn't worry about it. Talk to your ped at your 3 month check-up, but I bet you'll find that he/she isn't concerned.

If you can't get to a doctor, try calling your local La Leche League. They will help you for free, or tell you where to go for free information relating to breastfeeding and ALL issues associated with it. Good luck!
