James Madison and Thomas Jefferson were associated with the Anti-Federalists and both favored stronger states rights. Abraham Lincoln was born long after the Federalist party was gone. Washington thought that any sorts of political parties were detrimental to the nation, but he did support the idea of a strong national government and hence became known as a Federalist.
