my (other) com is formatted but i cant seem to detect the name of the drive when i reboot and tried to set up a new dos =S

you don't define a cd rom it is the hardware or software that defines the hardware devices..
and what is dos=s?
I would like to know several things
what is your computer? make / desktop or laptop
what software are you using? windows 98/XP other
without these answers one can not help you
