I asked a question the other day..about decorating tips for a HUGE bedroom I have...it is 1,200 sq ft...& YES it is....I looked at the floor plans again...to make sure....

I got this answer, as one of the answers.....

you may have measured your room wrong....seeing that you are a single mother of 2 kids...how could you afford such luxury....it sounds fishy to me...maybe in your wildest dreams;)

Where is it written that I am not allowed to have a huge house....my house is 5,000 sq ft....Just because I am a single Mom?

I also have my Mom & a roommate living with me to help pay bills & stuff...

Does anyone else agree with this statement?

& to clarify...yes I am offended by this statement.....

I'm a single mum, and really the only thing I can say to this, is we are put into a category that is really not the best for the ego. Disregard any criticism you get. If you are a single mum and can afford what you have then congratulations for working so hard to get where you have...it's a struggle

My opinion....its not written anywhere that a person, much less a woman cant provide luxeries to their offspring. The 'sounds fishy' person appears to have a myopic take on 'things'. Now comes the personal choice to 'TAKE' or 'PURCHASE' more than one needs. For some who whole heartedly buy into capitalistic ideals, this is all fine and dandy....they may even have a 'manifest destiny' aire about such thoughts. Then there are those that take only what is needed, once again a choice, yet a whole lot more environmentally friendly in their daily existence. (once again...my opinion) When I see gluttony...I revulse. Thats the great thing about us all being different...and being free to do so....yet it all comes with consequence in the long run for all peoples as a whole.
PS...Mirrors on the ceiling and the trapeze may be a bit much...lol 8o) Its for you to decide and live with!!

I think the answerer may just have been jealous that you can afford such a huge bedroom or that he/she could not just believe it. Personally, I know some single moms who can afford to give more to their kids compared to moms with partners. And there are also a lot of households today whose main source of income come from the woman and not the man.

Single moms are superwoman. They don't need man to support them. So there's nothing wrong with having 2 kids and living in luxury home. Maybe you have a very good income, anyway all the best to you and happy always..don't bother those answer that don't help.

That was a pretty ignorant thing for a person to assume, don't worry too much about it.

Do keep in mind though that the most important thing you can provide your kids is all of your time, and material things don't really matter much in the long run -- so forget stupid comments and stay focused on how to give your kids all of your attention (hopefully you will not be dating until they are all 18 and out of your huge house!)

Lets just say your in the 99.99 percentile of single moms with 1200 square foot rooms. Don't be offended it just sounds far fetched to some, it's like saying your a 7-8 chineese guy :)

Please do provide nice things for your family.

don't get me started. i've been accused of being on welfare! lol by someone who WAS on welfare. people need to mind their own business and respect the single mom for doing what she has to do even if it's taking help to provide for her kids. it's nuts that some people are so rude and judgemental. and sometimes a single mom's worst enemy is a woman who use to be a single mom herself lol go figure.

Unfortunately there are people here who are totally clueless (my personal euphemism for "moronic").

This is the dictum I follow ---

For everything there is a season, a time to be serious, a time to be playful, to time to butt in, a time to butt out --- it's knowing when to do what that separates the men from the boys.

Hats off to you, dear single mom.....you've gone a long way, baby! CHEERS!

Don't care abt what that person said...

you dont have to justify yourself to anyone, people are funny, they think if you're single you are poor.
You have to expect stupid answers sometimes, I get them and just laugh. how can anyone make an assumption about a person that has asked a question, they seem to think they know everything about them.
Anyway, I love decorating and would love to help you. I'll go and have a look at your previous question.
