I am thinking of Albuquerque or Santa Fe. I live in a little river town on the Mississippi. I want to find a place where I can meet a nice girl and settle down. I Just want to go somewhere where I can work on improving myself and my social networking skills. I want to find a place that has the resources to help me become a better person. I am 27 years old and I am pretty much alone in the world. I do alot of writing and generally spend time reflecting upon the world around me. I was recently injured (badly) in a motorcycle accident so I have alot of time off of work, so I'm bored. I've been spending this time trying to restructure my life and find out how to make the BIG CHANGES that I know I'll need to make to be able to someday support a wife and kids. I am 27. If anyone has any advice that would be great because I'm rather stuck at this point. I know things suck right now but they're about to get much better..... It's just a matter of time. Advice???? -john (rock island, Il)

John, you are still young enough to completely change your life around and start fresh.
And the great thing is (if you so choose) you have an entire country in which to do it.
You have a great positive attitude and are looking ahead.
Don't lose that.

The cities of NM are quite different to cities in Illinois.
I have been to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe, actually seen quite a bit of New Mexico.
Of the two, I would prefer the former.
I think either city would be a great place in which to do just what your planning to.

Relocate, get yourself fit and well again.
Finding employment would be the next priority.
This is where you can meet new people and work on your social networking skills.
In a large workplace, friendships happen as a matter of course.
You will also meet people in your residential neighbourhood, there are clubs to join, sports to pursue.
It does not take a young person long to make a new group of friends.

May I just suggest; before you do relocate, check out both cities websites and the websites of their Convention and Visitors Bureaus.
These sites have a wealth of information, you can get to know the cities before moving.
I have given you the links below:

* Albuquerque:

* Santa Fe:

I wish you the best.

The strong backbone to financial stability that can support a family, is a good work ethic. If you can find a decent job, and work your way up the ladder, you will be able to support a family. Start to put a little of your salary away each month, and invest part of it in something that will build equity (stocks, bonds, real estate).

When it comes to building a social background (finding the person you want to build this future with), think about places you like to go and hang out at (or if you plan a drastic change, think of where the type of people you want to be like hang out at), likely you will meet someone that fits those criteria by going to those places. Just be yourself, and be confident, it's what most women are looking for. Someone who can look out for them and also look out for themselves.

Anywhere is better than Mississippi! Remember that whats back there now will be there 6 months or 6 years when you return.You never know unless you try.

Your state division of vocational rehabilitation services can help you get training and a job you can do with your injury. I suggest you get in a program with them now and concentrate on getting ready to return to work. You might want to check out www.craigslist.org to see what groups are in your area or where you want to move.
