Question 1: Because they like kissing.
Question 2: Because they identify as straight.
It's not up to anybody else to decide whether a person is gay, straight, bi, queer etc. It is a matter of self identity. So a girl who says she is straight...is straight. If she kisses a girl then she's just a straight girl who kissed a girl.

I would say that they don't view the kissing as sexual. A kiss can be nothing more than a mark of friendship and this is what they are probably using it as. It used to be common to kiss your friends as you would a family member, but it lost popularity. I personally think that it would be great to have a more open display of affection for friends than say a hand shake.

I know! My friend kissed me and I was like "WHAT?" She's totally straight though AND taken. So, I see where your confusion comes from. I personally want a monogamous relationship and don't like the chase confusion from some girls.

a peck on the cheek or lips and a full-frontal intimate hug. it means you love her like a sister, not a sex partner.
if it's an open-mouth pash, they may be gay or just playing.
at any school you see dozens of girls holding hands or walking arm-in-arm. or on the week-end they 'sleep over'. they are not gay. just best friends. To think otherwise is sick.

my sister does that. she's just secure with her sexuality (straight) and she likes to expiriment. she's very involved in the gay community and has many gay friends. so if she really was a lesbian, she wouldn't be afraid to admit it. why limit yourself to one gender?
