I want to move closer to my mother, but would need a converted bungalow.
I am currently in a housing association bungalow.
I am up to date with all bills but when i try making enquiries i seem to come up against a wall of " all the money " that was spent converting my place. Any ideas ?

I have an idea - tell them straight that this is discrimination with a capital D!!
Are they basically saying that a disabled person isn't entitled to move house and has to stay where they are forever?! that is just not practical.
Secondly, you are moving for a good reason - not just on a whim!
If you still get no joy - make an official complaint - ask them what the procedure for this is - they can't refuse you.
If all this fails - speak to your local counsellor - they always like to look good by helping folks in their area.
Best of luck, xxx.

Well, seems to me there are other people is a wheelchair that could benefit from "all the money" that was spent on converting your bungalow. I would just keep your voice heard (intelligently and maturely...don't get mad) and sooner or later they may decide to offer you some options. Perhaps they only spend money once per person. Could your find an apartment that has already been converted?

Contact the Americans with Disabilities Association and see if they can offer you assistance or refer you to some agency that can assist. If you're not from the USA...you would have to find similar organizations where you live

Tell them they are discriminating against you. Enquire about going on an exchange list and write to housing associations in your mothers area asking to be put on their waiting lists.
Get all the professionals involved in your care on side as well, doctor, social worker etc to put a case forward for you.
Good luck

-Try to look for some groups or the community center that have activities for disabled. They may have a network to go through.
-advertise in your moms area
-call the local chamber of commerce in your moms area for ideas. They have business listings of all kinds for the community

I've always found my local Welfare Rights have all the answers, they are a brilliant group. Give yours a phone I'm sure they will be able to help. Your local Council Offices will give you the number.

Try to find someone in the same position as you who may want to swap.
Ask on here if there is anyone in that area who would like to come to your area.
