This is only my opinion but I think breast feeding after 1 yr is too long, especially in public. But I also think they should start potty training at that age also. Basically its a personal choice and there is no right or wrong answer.

From what I understand, up to three months your baby gets the best benefits of breast milk. However my wife has breast fed each of our kids for a year.

She definitely feels that it has helped their development and strengthened her bond with each of them.

As for feeding in public, do it as much as you want! The more commonplace public breastfeeding becomes, the less uncomfortable it'll be for everyone. As you know, it's possible to feed your child in public and be discreet about it.

it is all about when you, and your baby are ready for it. women in american dont breastfeed as long as women in other countries and experts say it causes problems, because breast feeding bonds you and your baby. if it gets to the point that YOU are no longer confortable with it, its time to wean, bc your child will sense youre uncomfortable and it will distress her. persoanlly, i think breast feeding is fine for up to 18 months (though after a year baby will only probably want it once or twice a day). as far as doing it in public, just make sure to drape something over so people arent getting flashed (that way anyone who has a problem with it cant complain) i think people need to get more used to it, but you cant change evryones mind so just cover up with a baby blanket and they can deal

According to the world health organisation, babies should be exclusively breast feed until they are 6 months and breast feed along with solids until the are 2 years old.

When they are older, they tend not to feed in public, I know with my daughter she only breast fed morning and night after her first birthday.

at least a year the longer the better for you child...as for public i suppose as long as YOU feel comfortable with it (after my little one turned 1 he didn't care to bf in public too much going on to stop and eat i suppose...i weaned my 2nd son at 14 months because i was pregnant and it was causing painful contractions and scaring me...a month latter he got sick really really bad and couldn't hold down any food, i felt horrible cuz i couldn't nurse him through it like the other times he was ill.....if the act of bfing bothers you once your child reaches a certain age u can always give him a cup full of your nutritious boob juice because lets face it little ones can be pretty finicky eaters at times and those days where you child has chosen to eat nothing but a apple and a bite of cheese and cracker its good to know he or shes getting the extra nutrition they need to grow up healthy..

Nurse as long you you feel like. It's best for the baby. As for the public, it's nobodys business but yours. You're not raising them, you're raising your child. The older they get, you can start with certain times of the day. When your child can understand that it's nursing time only at home, you're on the right track. Keep up the good work. You're child will reap the benefits.

For health benefits, it is recommended that you breastfeed for at least 2 years. The benefits continue for long after that, but 2 years is the minimum.
You can stop nursing in public if you want after 1 year by using toys, snacks, and sippy cups as distractions. Nursing should be your baby's main source of nutrition until one year, so it's kind of hard to tell an infant (who doesn't understand, no less) that they can't have their milk just because you are shopping or something.

When your back hurts and you find it a strain on your body! Or when your baby starts asking for it. That's my opinion, anyway, and I breastfed four children until 18 months.
As for feeding in public - the more mothers do it the more people will get used to it.

There is no right or worng answer to your question.
It simply depends on how comfortable you are breastfeeding, how happy your baby is and if you want to continue or not.
Give it a go and stop whenever you think you can't/don't want to do it anymore.
Good luck.
