UFO technically means "Unidentified Flying Object," so any object flying in the air that is unidentified would be a UFO. so yes, they exist.

i think you probably meant aliens though. i believe aliens exist, but the next galaxy is thousands of light years away, so i don't think there are any here on Earth and i'm not sure if there ever will be. even if the aliens live to be hundreds of years old, it would still take them several generations of aliens to get to Earth, even if they're travelling at the speed of light!

The letters UFO stand for ‘unidentified flying object.’ Technically, any flying object that remains unidentified by humans can be called a UFO. This means that if you are walking down a gravel road and a car comes that causes a small stone to hit you and you are unable to later identify it (because of the mass of small stones on the roadway), that would be a UFO.

debunking some myths:

--There is no evidence for UFOs--

Wrong, there is plenty of evidence. There are several hundred radar tracings, physical ground traces and tens of thousands of witnesses. There are several cases where people have received radiation burns from UFOs when they have been in close proximity and there are even some reported deaths.

--UFOs are only seen by unreliable witnesses or cranks--

This is just a myth which betrays ignorance in some people who should know better. There are UFO reports from not just members of the public but also commercial & military pilots, members of the police, astronomers and many other reliable or trained witnesses.

--The American government gave up investigating this subject in 1969--

There are some 30,000 documents released under the American freedom of information act that show that this is not the case. Despite denials they still study this subject.

--Most UFO pictures are fakes--

Some certainly are but investigators are keen to find and remove them, often going to great lengths to do so. The question is usually "What is this?" not "Is this Alien?".

--Science has better things to study--

Like what? Science is there to solve mysteries - not to make judgements, perhaps it could get off it's backside it could solve the mystery but at this moment it can't be bothered. Science has, in this case failed us.

--No official has ever admitted UFOs are of extraterrestrial origin.--

I found this rather surprising myself but actually a whole string of American and sometimes British officials
have said exactly that. By officials I mean the heads of the British and American air forces during the second world war and others of equal high standing. The best of course are the American and Russian Presidents who also stated the above...

--The Governments know whats going on and they cover it up.--

Yes and No. I do think there are some people, especially those involved in Air defence who know more about whats flying about out there than the rest of us, it is after all, their job. I could imagine that if you knew the capabilities of all your aircraft (including experimental and secret aircraft) and you knew what other countries had, then you could compare their capabilities and if something else was showing up significantly better then what we had you could conclude that they weren't local. If your job is to defend the skies you might not like to admit that there is something about which you can't do anything about.

If there is a cover up thats probably pretty much it. Some countries are happy to say there are things which they can't identify in their skies. It seems to be a British and American thing not to admit such things. When there was a number of sightings in 1994 in the UK it wasn't exactly big news. However when the same thing happened in Belgium 3 years before their reaction was to hold a press conference...

The one thing that most of these posts fail to recognize is the possible technological achievement of any race outside the human race. We know what we see and that is all.

But when you start to look at numbers, there are billions of galaxies each with billions of stars. For anyone to think that we are the only living things in this universe, is not only a conceited thought, but it is completely irrational. Take a statistics class.

As for them coming here, I am not sure anyone can give you a definitive answer on that. Is it possible? definitely. All you have to do is imagine this. ET's who could possibly be coming to this planet may very well be thousands, if not millions of years more advanced then we are. Given our technological achievements over the last 60 years, I would think that the ability to control space, gravity, light itself, and the environment inside the object that they are traveling in, wouldn't be something we see as an achievable objective with today's technology.

Can you even fathom what sort of technologies we would have come up with in the next 10000 years?

To answer your question directly, yes UFO's exist. Anything "unidentified" that is flying in the air is a "UFO."

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

Mysty, I have never seen one, but I do believe that they are real. I base that answer on Project Blue Book, and Project Grudge. In both studies, while most 'ufo's" could be explained away, there were some that could not be. There are also credible witnesses that have seen things that match nothing of terrestial origin, or flight capability.

I resent the fact that you alien humans are always questioning my existence.
That is the reason we have never contacted you,you are so dumb and ugly.
Some day I may send you a radio signal but right now I'm getting the hell out of here,if you are alert you may see my UFO as I barrel away.
