Im asking this on behalf of my friend her husband is dying of renal cancer (kidney cancer)

cause its a family friend that is about 70 yrs old and doent know how to operate a computer :( im just trying to be helpful.

She will get Social Security and depending on how his retirement is set up it may or may not continue..We elected to take less now and it will continue the same on his death. She needs to talk with the benifits people @ his former work. Thank you for helping your friend.

At the time of retirement, my husband and I were asked if we wanted the full monthly amount with no death benefits or did we want a slightly less amount per month with a death benefit to the widow of half the current monthly amount. I do not know if all pensions are this way.

Yes. That is one purpose of having a pension plan. Even when you died, your family is provided for.

To know your rights for sure regarding your husband's pension, ask for a copy of its certificate and study it. If you have difficulties to understand the clauses, ask the help of a friend or a family member who knows pensions.

As others have stated, it really depends on the option they choose at his retirement. If the choose to get the maximun monthly pay, it very well will end upon his death. Or the monthly payoit maybe reduced by 50%. She does need to speak with the benefits people where he worked. I would not rely on his or hers memory
