Ohh my little one is teething already.. The only thing that seems to calm his frenzy is his fist.. the whole fist, which he eventually gags himself with, a bottle, or a blanket he crams in his orfice. Any remedies for my Pooh? He hates pacifiers.. and Oragel doesn't last more than 10 minutes.

There are lots of ways you can ease the discomfort of teething.

Try rubbing the gums gently with your little finger.
Give your baby something to chew on - a teething ring will help soothe the gums, especially if cooled in the fridge beforehand. Don't be tempted to put it in the freezer because if it's too cold it could cause frostbite.
Carrot fingers or a chunk of apple can be just as effective, and the fibres they contain will help clean any teeth that have already appeared. Keep an eye on your baby while they're having a good old chew because small chunks could be a choking hazard. This is especially important if they already have some teeth as they could easily bite off little bits.
A sugar free teething gel such as Calgel will also help to reduce the pain. Containing a local anaesthetic, it can be applied directly to your baby's gum to numb the area and is suitable for use from 3 months plus.
If your baby still seems uncomfortable, a liquid pain reliever should help. Calpol Infant Suspension is specially formulated for infants from 2 months* plus and the sugar free variety is ideal for teething. Alternatively you could try Calprofen which is available in a sugar free variety and suitable for infants from 3 months* plus.

Colleen is right about the whiskey because I could remember my Grandmother telling me to try that.
Here are some thing I did for my daughter.

- getting a teething toy of clean wet wash cloth and put it in the freezer I'm sure he'll love that.

- Theres also a teething toy that you can put icecubs or fruit in and the baby can chew or suck on that.

- there are also teething toys that vibrait when the baby bits down on it .

-And you also have teething tablets that work great and better than orgael.

I know how you feel with this because my daughter didn't take pacifiers and the oragel didn't do much for her either when she was teething.

My son likes shoving his fist in his mouth and that calms him down, im trying to give him other things to put in his mouth, like the cold wash cloth works. He also loves ice i break it up in my mouth and then i give it to him, and that was a bad idea, because now when he sees me with a cup in my hand he tries to take it out of my hand he knows whats inside of it. I know oragel never works and i hate putting it on him because he fights me when i put it on him. One time it was really bad and he was crying and crying for the longest time and his little face was all red and sweating from all the crying he had done, well my mom rubbed some tequila on his gums and that was it he calmed down so fast. I was totally against giving him that but it actually worked.

Back in the days before oragel and anbesol, back before it was taboo. Mothers very often would rub a dab of whiskey on the teething baby's gums. My mother did it with me, I can remember my step sisters using it for their kids...I didn't use it for my own daughter because she never seemed to have much trouble with teething and I would rub infant tylenol directly on her gums. I also used a partially frozen wash cloth, she loved to chew on it.

Humphrey's # 3 for teething and wake-fullness. My mom gave me that when I was a baby and I give it to my kids. I think it works. It's herbal so you can't hurt the baby, there little white pellets that taste sugary and dissolve in their mouth. Otherwise you can dissolve them in a warm spoon of water and spoon feed. Oral gel didn't work for my kids. Also anything cold will help. Cold rag, Popsicle, be creative, but safe!

Soak a clean washcloth in water and then freeze it. Give it to him. The nappy parts on the wash cloth stiffen up and will comfort his gums...

My mother did this with my bro and I and I've done it with countless nieces, nephews, godchildren. Works like a charm and it's cheap and safe. (make sure you put the washclothe in a plastic bag while it's in freezer).

said it a few times now..
Dill pickles..
the dill will help settle the tummy, the pickle is cold and firm enough to gnaw on for quite awhile..
just dont give to the child once he/she gets teeth..
worked wonders on my baby and apparently on myself as well.. (got the tip from my mom)
Most of my friends have tried this as well when my mom told them about it.. (oh.. have a camera ready for the face the baby will make!! its priceless) they get over the taste really quickly
