I am constantly so worried about work and right now and since last night(today was my day off and I was thinking about it ALL day) I have been worried about something that happened at work. (a mistake that could possibly be my fault)..how do I relax and stop worrying or at least put the issue at the back of my mind at least until the next day that I work and it all gets sorted out (i'm off tmrw too) so that tomorrow won't be a day wasted by worrying myself sick to the point where all I can do is think about it and chainsmoke...? help, guys

Best I can think of is remind yourself that with time problems all get smaller. Maybe in a month from now it won't even be on your mind. Ooookay, maybe this is silly, but I think of life in terms of layers of varnish. It's this ball, and all the time new layers of clear varnish are going on, making the ball bigger. Sometimes ugly things stick on - the uglier they are, the bigger and pointier. Eventually, though, the varnish will smooth out and then totally cover the ugly bumps. You'll be able to see them still, but they won't be sticking out anymore...

Okay, maybe that all worked better in my head :) I'm sorry you're stressed, though! I hope it all works out.

to relax you should just sit some where quite not think breathe deeply(meditate) You'll be realy relaxed if you do it for 30 minutes you come out of it like a new person. So relax don't be so worried. If you are nervous and think about what bad things are going to happen then most likely its going to happen. So don't worry so much about work just take is One day at a time. Then things will work out for you more.

I agree with the second answer on meditation, especially some practical ones you can do yourself. Please consult a medical doctor specialized in mental health, I think he/she should know how to since it's one of the ways to keep people in trouble like you relaxing and, thus, learn how to think positively and keep those negative thoughts away.
Please refrain from smoking (I smoked and quit some 25 years ago) since it'd do more harm to your health, I find it relaxing by drinking coffee. Find something interesting to do to while away your time so that you won't keep thinking about your work. Be calm, do things according to priorities, while doing anything, just focus on what you're doing. I mean you see it, concentrate on it and thinking about it without letting your thought drift away somewhere. Take care and I hope you can recover from it soon.

Take one day at a time and do the best you can each day.
You'll get it sorted out when you go back to work.
Worrying uses up all the time that could be used for enjoyment.

Try meditation and prayer -- then turn it over to God. Suggest you
use your search engine to research meditation and prayer. AND I DO NOT MEAN "transcendental meditation", hypnosis, devil spell, or any other BS] I believe it was Horace Mann who stated something like: A man who rejects/condemns an idea/concept without prior and thorough investigation, condemns himself to everlasting ignorance.
If problems continue, consider counseling for compulsive disorders
It's common and even openly talking about it helps.
