There lies a problem in your suggestion. There is no objective standard in education. Location is a factor in the quality of education one receives therefore "minimum" education cannot be standardized at least with our current social structure. If your suggestion is to become reality, the people who do not meet the criteria to vote will be underrepresented in government, their issues, and concerns will not be addressed. This is not a far cry from what we are experiencing today. With corporate America funneling thousands to political campaigns the middle class and lower class have taken a back seat to the few and wealthy in terms of representation in government (plutocracy).
Politicians are practitioners of rhetoric, experts in the field, they are modern day Sophists. How can you over come their expertise ? Simple scrutinizing their arguments/comments in the realm of reason, logic, and research not in the realm of opinion, religion, and assumptions.
Socrates said centuries ago "I am not an Athenian or a Greek, but a citizen of the world." decide on issues on an individual bases with proper reason, logic and research not because of party loyalties. Sometimes you will have to contradict your religious, morals beliefs, and traditions but remember to examine both sides of an issue Aristotle said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
Good Luck

First of all, since this forum is open to the entire world and we have often seen people here posting questions about politics in the UK, Australia, India, etc., which country are you talking about?
Second, assuming that you are talking about the US, you're too late to try and start talking about imposing new qualifications on registering to vote. Federal law includes a rule that no state government can impose a literacy test as a prerequisite for being able to register to vote. That's part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Any attempt to create a minimum education standard for voting will quickly be deemed to be in violation of that law.

Even education does not equip u to deal with the cunningness of politicians. They lie, sweet talk, promise but do not deliver, exaggerate, threaten, argue etc. etc. Sometimes, minimum education may be a hinderance to know the truth of these deceptive leaders.

You would disqualify most Americans from voting, because the majority of the voting public, regardless of education, economic status,or,and maybe because of,religious affiliation, let themselves be districted from any real issues by semantic games.
I really believe that the sum total of politicians on any level that is capable of,and/or willing to solve any of the problems facing us is so small as to be impossible to detect.
Politics long ago became a means to monetary enrichment and personal power. The desire to truly represent the people and to be stewards of the public good is all but dead in the political world.
Edit-Man,you should of told us who you were talking about,Here i wrote this fine polemic about American voters vis-a-vis the political class, and I wasted it.

Mark D is right on the money. In the "Deep South" the politicians used to come up with all kind of ways to keep the blacks from voting (Today we have Kathleen Harris & Diebold Voting Machines!). They had a poll tax, where it cost a dollar to vote or reading test.

I believe if you check every state in the union, the requirement for education does not determine your ability to vote. Even though some do not use their education to vote, they vote for who their party tells them to vote for. I think it's the age of the person and the will to register. Then there's the determination to vote. I think every one who votes should get a coin showing they voted. That way when some loud mouth starts spewing their opinions about how a politician is doing their job, you can ask to see their coin that allows them to spew with respect. if they do not show their coin, they can spew but with no respect.

Yes, it must.
You are quite correct.
But politics isn't difficult in a country that has only 2 Parties.
Either you like them or you don't.
The power to vote is your democratic right, regardless of your intelligence or color.
That is unless you live in Florida.
We all saw what happened last election!!

People without a high school diploma are just as entitled to use their votes for their self interests as people who carry a PhD.
