This sounds like thread worm and it is nothing to be anxious about. Children have this often as it is contractable from other children through lack of handwashing and poor hand hygiene. The egg of the threadworm is present in soil and is transferred when the child does not wash their hands before eating or putting their hands in their mouth. It is also hard to break the cycle without treatment as the worms lay eggs around the anus at night time which is itchy, the child then scratches its bottom thus the cycle continues.

You can go to any pharmacy and pick up medication for this. It is a simple drink that you have over the course of a week and it kills the worms. It must be taken regularly until all of the worms are dead and cannot lay anymore eggs. It is always very important to ensure that bedding, towels and flannels are washed regularly and not shared and MOST importantly never ever put food or hands into your mouth that have not been washed.

This is alot more common than people think and everyone will have had it at some point in their lives. Go to your pharmact but remember to tell them you are pregnant.

Good Luck.

Although you may feel embarrassed to bring this to your GYN's attention, it's definitely something you need to do ASAP (needless to say). How long have you had this? I can't imagine it would directly harm your baby seeing as how your bowels are completely seperated from your baby, but I would make an appointment tomorrow morning. I hope it's treatable while pregnant. Good luck. =]

You should go to your doctor (who will ask for a sample of your stool). It is possible that it's just mucous (which looks similar), and not worms. Best to be SAFE not sorry, however, so definitely ask your doctor!!

They could be pinworms, which shouldn't affect the baby, but the medicine that you take to get rid of them may not be good for a developing baby.

when i was a preschool teacher this was going around once. the number one thing we recommended to parents (in addition to seeing a doctor) was not to allow the children to sleep with pets!!!! the two little sisters who had it worse slept with their cat every night. animals do not belong in bed with people, especially pregnant people!!!
