I don't know about the guinea pig, but I have not too long ago got a Maltese (male). You have to have a lot of patience when it comes to house breaking them. I have read that they are one of the hardest toy dogs to house break. Reason being they have tiny bladders. I have made progress with mine but I am not completely there yet. I tried the crate training and that really didn't work, as soon as I put him in the crate he would use it. So don't believe when you hear that a dog won't use it in confined places. Other than that he is great. They are so loyal. You can leave out for a couple of minutes and they will greet you like you've been gone all day. It's very easy to spoil them because of how affectionate they are. I would have to say get a Maltese if you want a real pet and a guinea pig is you don't really have the time to spend with a Maltese. Price wise the Maltese is not cheap. They start out around $2,000.00 and under. If you decide to go with the Maltese shop around. I paid $750.00 plus tax for mine. Just research the web and learn about the Maltese if that is what you decide on.

Guinea pigs are nice pets but they mostly do better having a companion like a rabbit, some can also be timid. Maltese are sweet and gentle toy breed dogs and good for people with dog allergies, if you have kids they will make a nice family pet. But it depends on your life style. Personally, I'd go with getting a maltese, I have a feeling you'll find them a lot easier to care for than Guinea pigs.

Maltese is a dog I suppose. Guinea pigs are wonderful. Bu t between the two, I'd go for the Maltese. Except that you need to go to a veterinarian for his vaccines, etc.

If you're like me and are more responsible when more responsibility is given, get the dog.
If not, get the guinie pig.
Personally, I don't do well at all with caged animals. Something about them not being able to ask for attention and being small to the point of squeezing under doors...
Maybe you should hit the happy medium. Get a SKUNK. They're neat.

It is better to have fishes in aquarium as it requires only maintainance of aquarium glass, taking care of them and giving them their fish food. The fishes r wonderful and colorful creatures.Other pet animals would require more care and maintainance than fish.
