I play softball and I need to buy a bat.
What brand name do you think is the best kind for a softball bat?

The last answer gave some good advice.

If you are a power hitter, and a strong girl, the "hot bats" will probably be what you want. If you are a finesse hitter, slapper, or such, or don't have much upper body strength, go with the lightweights.

Be sure you don't buy an illegal bat. This year for high school play all bats have to bear the 2004 ASA approval logo on them. BUT---Go to the ASA website to check that the bat you choose is not on the "banned" list. The Catalyst FPC305 has the 2004 mark, but has been banned. The FPC205 looks identical, but has not been banned!

You can also check the approved list to verify the bat you choose is legal for play. This isn't a huge problem in fastpitch, but is on the slowpitch side.

Having said that, I umpire close to 500 fastpitch games a year. I can tell from the sound of contact when the Rockettech is used! That is an awesome bat in the right hands!

A lot depends on your size and strength, but if your playing any serious softball go with a composite bat. Easton Stealth, Worth Mayhem, any of the better Mikens. The Catalyst and the Rockettech are only good if your very strong as they are end weighted and harder to swing. Find someone knowledgeable of the sport and have them help you with the size. Most girls usually buy bats that are to heavy and cannot get enough bat speed. This is especially important if you are playing fastpitch.

Ask some of your team mates what they are using and see if you could hit with some of them and see if you like any of them. There are some sites you can go to to review bats, may take a few times to find the correct site but it will give you a good idea on the bats performance.I agree with some other answers on this subject make sure your bat is legal for your play bats can get quite pricey so do your homework.Good Luck!!!

Don't ever settle on a certain brand. Go to sports shop and find a bat that you are personally comfortable with. That's the most important thing. The name on a bat is just that...a name.
