Find a record executive and sing it for them. Get with a songwriter who gets published that you respect so you can take it through their channels.
I write lyrics all the time. I flash 'em since I have the dates I wrote 'em proved away in my computer. I sing karaoke all the time as well.
Open up a little. It's just another poem until you share.

Luna, you must have training in music. If you are in high school take a music appreciation class. This class will teach you notation and other rudiments of music. Join a choir or hire a voice teacher to give you lessons. Find other people in your area who have the same passion for music as you do and get them to mentor or help you. Keep writing your own stuff. When you are good enough (people will let you know) and you have lots of songs, you can find a local recording studio in your area and do a demo CD. You can make copies and sell them to your friends and family members. If you are a really good singer, volunteer to sing at weddings, parties and other events of your family and friends. This will get you noticed. Once you write something down it is yours and is automatically copyrighted. Always keep the rough drafts of your songs that you write on scratch paper and keep them in a box tucked away. It's good to have proof of ownership. It's risky to put your stuff out there, but it's worth the risk sometimes. When you go to recording studios always go with someone like your Mom or a good friend who will watch out for you. Pray and ask God for guidance.

If you don't want anyone stealing your songs, you can do whats called a "poor mans copyright". Mail it to yourself and leave it in a sealed envelope.
Start writing as much as you can. Learning an instrument will help you in many ways, I do most of my writing on piano, some on guitar. Many places have "open mic" nights' Where songwriters can get up and perform for a live audience. This is a good way to get feedback from others. Look for books and articles about other songwriters to see how they made their career happen.
Good luck!

The youtube thing is a good idea. Do that, and if you get good feedback, try booking gigs around town. If you manage to get a gig, make sure to put posters up. Places like starbucks have cork-boards you can put a flier on, or staple them to phone line pillars or something

if you need a website to post them on, you can borrow my webspace.
a very good way to create buzz though is go to college radios and have them play you or even try going to major radio stations and leaving tapes at their doorstep. also tell your friends, circulate flyers, go to open mic nights
