Also, if you know of any really good cosmetology schools in or around Memphis, TN, I would appreciate a listing. I want to get involved in the hair shows and I would also like to open my own shop. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

hi,
first, look in your local phone book for cosmetology schools, there won't be that many to choose from, pick the one closest to where you live. after you have your required hours in and tests done, you can work in a salon on a temporary license until you take your state board for your license. testing is only done 2 - 4 times a year, depending on your state. your school may have salon listings for the students or you can search the want ads. once you are in a salon you like and is a busy salon, you build up your own following. once you have your own following, then you can start thinking of owning your own salon. a government small business loan might be a good place to look for finances in doing this. then post ads in the paper for other cosmetologists, insist on "with a following". good luck to you in your new career, it is a exciting one. and there are more shows a year than you can shake a curler at! :)

It takes awhile,If you can get a job In you town where people know you It is mostly word of mouth. It took me about 1yr before I had alotof business,about 2 yrs I had my own. Personailty is most importent. Good Luck

just adverstise and talk to as many people u can so word can get out about you...and if people like you...you will get places!
