My sweater was an oatmeal color and a spec of black got on it --it's water soluble art paint. I tried to clean it up as best I could without damaging it some more. It has lighten to a light gray, but it's still there. What's the best way to lighten up this mark up myself till it's unoticable and keep the cashmere soft?

Going to the cleaners would be my last resort.

See if putting a dry cloth underneath it, and using a baby shampoo on the small end of a dampened cloth. Push the stain
through with the shampoo, just on the spot gently, catch it with the cloth underneath as if dabbing a spot on a rug. (turn or refold the cloth to catch the paint reside.) Rinse with a clean cloth on either side, or wash with baby shampoo (or a very mild wool wash) inside out.
Lay inside a clean dry towel, twist gently, block and dry flat.
(Rubbing Alcohol can work if color safe.)

When it comes to a cashmere sweater with a stain, I would take it to the dry cleaner. The wrong home remedy could ruin the sweater.

How nice of those people to be completely useless and not answer your question! Try Shout. I got pine sap (from the christmas tree..happy holidays) on my fresh out of the wrapping cashmere sweater. I used rubbing alcohol to get it out and the sweater was fine. Warning, test it on a place that you can't see first.

Throw the sweater away, or give it away
