I bought some from Circuit City and 4 years later still going strong now. No problems yet. But I can not remember the brand. But check out pcworld and cnet and make sure you get a motherboard either dual core minimum or the core 2 duo. They both have article on building your computer and what to buy.

Check the download section at these sites for some free downloads. Also bookmark them and you can learn about computers.

just about any thick silicon thermal paste will work fine. avoid the liquid ones in a pen. get the thick paste like ones in a tub or tube. zenith has a pink sticky one thats good but it becomes instantly permanent on any surface it touches, so i dont use it. just about any white thick one is fine. make sure its silicon so the heat wont simply melt it and make it run off.
