When I open my windows task manager (ctrl+alt+del) I see that the program that is taking up the most of my memory is a program called spoolsv.exe which is being run by the system. What is this, why is it using so much ram, and how can I make it stop?

just delete it you do not need it. Do a defrag and clean your files. Go to START, then ALL PROGRAMS, then to ACCESORIES, then to SYSTEM TOOLS. Once you get there do the clean up and defrag. I presume you have anti virus programs running.
