Yes she did, and there is nothing you can do since you let her leave the salon without properly paying you. She comes in again, call the police, but I doubt she will return.

How long ago was it? It will be her word against yours. As soon as you found out that it was a dollar, and not a ten, you should have confronted her then and there. I say get your curlers back, and chalk as a lose. Use it as a lesson learned, first of all GET YOUR MONEY BEFORE SERVICES ARE RENDERED, secondly look at your money AS SOON AS a person gives it to you. She must have been a friend, or you wouldn't have lent her your curlers, just keep in mind that business is business, regardless of how close of a friend they are. She might have just made a mistake thinking that the money she gave you was a ten. Mention it to her, if she gets defensive then you'll know you were scammed. If she's apologetic, then you will know it was an honest mistake. Don't assume just ask her, when she returns your curlers.

I wouldn't lend her anything anymore. Communication barriers are a tough thing. Sounds like she dosen't respect your service, especially if she handed you cash or whatever all crumbled up. She said she has been there 30 years? Well I sure hope you have other partners you work with. I'd tell them the story and if they stick you with the seniority business, I'd tell them to take a flying leap. Yes you were scammed. Next time tell them it's quite a bit more for styling, and you do the styling.

If you can find her again, you should (politely) let her know that
she probably made a mistake and only gave you a one-dollar bill.
If she doesn't believe you, or at least claims not to believe you,
then just know you shouldn't do business with her again. Its not
enough money to try to go after in any other way (such as small
claims court).

Yes she scammed you alright I no because it was done to me only I was cammed for fifty dollars. She handed me ten dollars balled up into one five dollar bill and five one dollar bills. You learned a valuable lesson for the price of ten dollars.
