The New deal was created to help the nation during the Great Depression. The Depression ended with the US's entry in WW II, whicj meant that full employment was no longer a problem. Thus, many of the programs died out at this time as they were no longer necessary. But many of the programs (like Social Security, Banking and Investment regulation, Rural Electrification/Tennessee Valley Authority, etc) remain to this day.
