My theory on the discovery of the Clouded Leopard in Borneo is the deforestation in the area. I believe that the Clouded Leopards were being pushed out of their homes in which they have hid & lived for hundred of years. Now their home environment has decreased and now have a smaller area to live and survive in.

sonicachic311 is right yet may I expand. Finding this old cat proves beyond question that chopping down lots of tress has advantages. I wonder just how many selfish little critters like this silly looking leopard remain hiding in the woods and will only come out once that last tree comes crashing down. And when that happens who will be left to look after the little buggers. Yes that’s right us humans will yet again be left to do all the work for lazy old mother nature.

They have known about it for a long time - since the 19th century - but it wasn't actually identified as a unique species until recently. There are 40 genetic differences between that and the 'mainland' leopard in that region, indicating that they diverged 1.4 million years ago. There are estimated to be less than 15 thousand in existance so it should be protected! Meow!

I'm with sonicachic311... They've dropped so many trees that the leopard has got nowhere to hid anymore!!
