My Neon was running fine until about 3 days ago. Now, whenever I give it more than 1/4 throttle from a dead stop, the engine seems to struggle and does not pull as strongly as it usually does. It's kinda like when you have the A/C on. It is then followed by an upshift that makes the car sort of lurch forward instead of shifting smoothly, only happening when the engine runs as such. Full power seems to return after it hits 40 MPH. Until now, it only acted this way if (1) the outside temperature was above 85F, or (2) the spark plugs or ignition wires were bad, both of which are brand new. It does not stall, smoke, buck, ratlle, misfire or have trouble starting, it runs fine otherwise, but now it does it all the time, and it only started when the weather warmed up a couple of days ago. I am thinking it is probably a bad sensor of sorts or an ignition problem, but I am unsure as to what is causing it. Any at all advice would be greatly appreciated, and only serious inquiries please.

I fudged on the first question I posted, so that is why it might appear twice.

To avoid guesswork and wasting time, I suggest you get it scanned with a code reader.

Many of the major parts stores now have readers that can tell you which if any, of the sensors are bad. That will save you money and frustration.

That way, you buy the correct part the first time.

A well tuned Neon should have plenty of zip.

Good luck

It struggles because it knows it will always be just a Dodge Neon.

Seriously, this car has the OBDII (On Board Diagnostic) system on it. As said above, get the codes read because there are too many sensors that could be bad, from the 02 to the engine temp.

When you turn on the A/C you will lose some power. Because the A/C runs from a belt that is powered by your engine. So this would be my guess. But if it it does this all the time even if the A/C is off I would try replacing the transmission filter and put new ATF in it. If it is an automatic transmission.

there are many things that it could be but the first thing that comes to mind is the mass air flow sensor. take it to an auto part store to see if theres any codes in the computer (autozone does it free) and then if that doesnt help take it to a reputable mechanic.

not 100% sure thats what it is but thats what id check first

hope this helps
