My system was running too slow before even after i had upgraded my ram from 128 Mb - 521 Mb. So what i did was i formatted one of my drives which had the OS installed in it and tried to install Windows Xp in the same drive with my 512 Mb ram but i could install the OS due to some errors that occurred during the installation the error was something like this "could not install bla bla bla." and i had two options to proceed one is to skip that file and the second was to retry" but when i retried the same error occurred and if i skipped it the error would occur for many other files and i was forced to cancel the installation... But then i removed my 512 Mb ram and installed the old 128 Mb ram and tried to install the Windows Xp OS again and i was successful in installing the OS... Now after the installation i put the 512 Mb ram back and my computer is working fast and fine...But my computer hangs only while playing games like NFS and it gets restarted showing some errors for 0.1sec

You computer is operating normally after formatting. For XP, it is generally better to have at least 1gb of ram for optimal performance.

The reason for the slow response and the errors when playing games has to do with a lot of factors. One of them being the ram, as mentioned above. Another factor is the graphics card that you use. Better graphics card equal faster performance. CPU speed is another factor.

If your computer is a laptop, you are limited to a number of options, depending on the specifications of your computer. For instance, in a laptop, you can not upgrade the CPU nor the graphics card, but you can upgrade the ram.

*Side note* Upgrading the ram without clearing unneccessary files does not result in a considerable speed boost. Your decision to reformat was a good idea, considering you did not lose any important files along the way.

As for the problem you described, it is very common. So don't fret.

This is a bit tough to say exactly what is causing the problem. The best way to figure out your issue is to check your event log, Go to your my computer icon and right click it, then go down to manage and select that option. That will open up your computer management console. From the list on the left hand side you should be able to select event manager. click on the plus sign to expand that item and you should see a few headings. One should say system and another should say application. Scan through both of those logs and see if there are any red errors. When you find something that you think pretains to your error you should post that as a question so then we will be able to better pinpoint what is causing your system to act so crazy.

Your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
it with one of:

http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org

Any of these will be more reliable, use your hardware more
efficiently, and they're all free.
