lets say you have a Bb on top and bb on the side. when you are writing the letters in the box how do you determine which letter goes first Bb or bB

By convention I usually write the capital letters first, but either way you write it, the probabilities for the different combinations of letters (representing alleles) remains the same.

In the real world, it doesn't matter. bB and Bb are both heterozygotes with the same genotype and phenotype. In the academic world, it depends on how picky your teacher is and whether they want to follow the capital-first convention or have you write it out "in order" so you see how you got your answer.

The capital letter ALWAYS goes first. So it would be "Bb"

I always have my students write the one from the left first, followed by the one from the top. But some teachers require that the capital letter be first. Check with your teacher to see what he/she wants you to do.

Typicaly B always goes before b.
