Castro has gotten rid of the "Cuban Mafia", they are all in Miami now. His people are the best educated and have the best health care in the world. You do not see children digging in the dumps to find food as in most Latin American countries. Cuba has 15,000 doctors in Venezuala working with the poor of that country in exchange for oil.
Cuba has assumed the leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement after being elected to direct that 116-country organization for the next three years.
A few months ago, Cuba was supported in its bid to join the new UN Human Rights Council by 135 countries (significantly more than supported Canada!)
Last November, a Cuban motion at the UN General Assembly to condemn the U.S. embargo of that country was supported by 182 countries. Only four (the United States, Israel, Palau and the Marshall Islands) voted against.
A final note: Cuba currently has 30,000 medical staff working abroad – mainly for free – in developing countries. That is more than all G-8 countries and the World Health Organization combined.
Cuba is amazing! The people are resilient. The government has its priorities and cutting education and health is not on the agenda. Our Canadian government should take time to study how a poor country like Cuba can include free education in its economic budget while we continue to cut, cut, cut.
I encourage anyone who travels to visit Cuba and to "please get away from the beach for at least one day."
Sorry, I forgot, Americans are not allowed to visit Cuba. Like during the "Cold War", Russians weren't allowed to visit other countries for fear they would find out the truth.

Dictators don't run for election. Castro has been a danger to the U.S for decades. Why didn't Bush go after a guy who's within 60 miles of our country instead of Saddam? Castro has ruined Cuba but doesn't have any oil, just people fleeing Cuba in boats.

Right. He's running straight to hell in 2008.
I don't know why they even call it the election. He has been in power for million years.

He has a strong will power, confidence, conviction and determination. Over and above this, the good of his country and countrymen.
