Gay marriage is legal in the countries of Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, South Africa, & Spain. Israel recognizes gay marriages performed in other countries. It is legal in the US state of Massachusetts for state marriage benefits, but these benefits do not extend to the federal level of government due to the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996.
Although not marriage, same-sex partnerships are recognized in Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Iceland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, & Switzerland. The individual US states of Vermont, Connecticut, & New Jersey also have civil unions which are not recognized by the federal government.

I live in New Zealand, and here we have legalized 'Civil Unions' - they allow for all the same benefits (and legalities) as marriage, and were created in order to give homosexual marriage the same credibility (well, almost) as heterosexual marriages.
