there are 6 of us, all females. there is a new girl, young and from a different country and for some reason, maybe because she's new? they dote on her, leaving me and another coworker to do most of the work. the "new girl", makes private phone calls, brouses online and ignores customers while the managers in charge seem to think it's cute and even help her file her work, etc!
she takes extra time at lunch and blames her mistakes on me and my coworker.
a few times, when i've tried to gently "correct" her..or told her what work needs to be done, she will ignore me - or worse, the office manager comes over to protect her and orders me to do some kind of job.
i am at a loss of what to do, aside from quitting. i really need this job, as a single mom but will find another job before giving notice if that's the only answer.
if anyone has a different answer or insight into this i would appreciate it!

Sounds very unfair to you and coworker. You need to talk with your boss, letting know that if you or coworkers would act like the new girl does you would probably get fired, how fair is this?
But keep up the good work at the office. Be professional. Although...
Don't you hate brown nosers, always looking to make you look bad. You know why they try so hard to look good? Cause they are so insecure, and one day if, if your boss is smart, will see her game, and she won't last. But nothing is stopping you to look for something better.... And work is work, leave work at work, and enjoy your life at home with your kid or kids. My sympathy

Unfortunately we humans are programmed to have certain responses to certain accents. Most American's think that English people are intelligent, because of their accent. Tend to think that southerners are slow, because of their accent.

She may have an accent that makes everyone want to parent her. Sounds really unfair to me, but sounds a bit like life. If your company is large enough, go to HR (with your snubbed coworker) and talk about this issue. HR is there to listen and make sure the people that keep the company moving are well oiled and happy in their jobs. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't sit around getting blamed for someone elses mistakes, I'd be getting my resume out there.

Don't worry. Eventually, if she doesn't start producing soon, your boss and coworkers will get tired of her and expect her to pull her own load. Trust me. I've been in situations like this before. Just report to work and do the best you can whether your efforts are appreciated or not. If the job becomes unbearable, try to find another job, but hold on to the one you have until that day comes. Good Luck.

if she is new, give this situation a little time. if you say to the boss, you are playing favorites with so-and-so, i don't see him saying, oh really, yes you're right, i see the error of my ways. i don't know how much you can do about it, except try not to let it bother you so much, there are always bosses favorites at work, in my experience.
