The issue won't be elbow room.

It will be available food, available water, clean air, etc.

We are arguably there now, though with advents of technology,
we're able to purify things to just keep in step with our
own polluting.

For awhile at least.

I am a firm believer in negative population growth.

Around the year 1900 the total world population was just one billion. In the last 40 years or so it has doubled to more than 6 billion. Before I die, I expect to see 8 or 9 billion. Very soon the day is coming when the population will either stabilize or 'crash' due to infectious disease, war, starvation, or a combination of these.

In some parts of the world (primarily developed countries) there is a birth rate decline. In other parts (eg. India and China) there is still a population explosion.

With a tripling of the world population in my own lifetime, I hope it stabilizes soon. It can't go on forever. The "too crowded time" (10 or 15 billion people) is fast approaching - maybe another 40 or 50 years (my guess).

i once saw on the discovery channel....that in a couple of years...maybe 50 or so..that earth will run out of land...and their going to start building houses on water.

Human Overpopulation
The single greatest threat to the viability of life on Earth is the ever increasing number of human beings living on the planet. Like all creatures humans need to eat, take up physical space, need homes, consume resources and produce waste products. It is estimated that there are over 6.2 billion people living on Earth now, with projections for 10 billion people by 2050. It is a sobering fact to consider that 3/5's of the world's population does not get enough to eat everyday. The majority of human beings living on Earth live at the margin of poverty or below it. Yet birth rates among the poor are the highest, as are the incidence of disease and suffering. Other lifeforms and natural systems themselves are under assault from the burgeoning number of people taking over more and more of the Earth's surface. Many animal species have been driven to extinction by humans and animals as celebrated as Tigers are barely holding on due to human invasion of Tiger habitat and ignorant peasant belief in superstitions such as that verility can be enhanced by consuming Tiger penis soup. . .

we are already there...what you dont know of the BILLIONS of people starving in china and other places.

If the US were more responsible with food we MIGHT be able to feed everyone but it would still be a stretch and it would mean giving it to people who cant pay. Economics stands in the way of that

as the population is increasing,so does the problems, more people will result in less resourses including food, water even air to breathe.moreover more population will lead to more greenhouse effect which will ultimately lead to more dangerous disease and unhealthyness.
