What would happen if the release bearing wasn't greased when being replaced?

I did buy it new, and there was a pack of grease in the clutch kit. I was under the impression that that was to go on the transmission, around the bearing itself. Not the grease inside the bearing, sorry for any confusion.

I believe what you are asking is also called a throw-out bearing if it has to do with the clutch system on a standard transmission. This bearing, if bought new would already be prepacked with grease. But, if it is an already used bearing from another vehicle, it should also be prepacked. It is a sealed bearing. If it were out of grease, it would seize up from the heat buildup during operation. If not sure about bearing, purchase a new one.

A new bearing is a sealed unit and is already packed, the only way for the grease to get out is if the bearing is getting loose. If this is the case it needs to be replaced, if you already have a new bearing then you should be in good shape, even on the grease. Hope it works out for ya.

i think it would just wear out faster and probably make noise. is that what you did? they aren't too expensive but the labor is a huge pain... and often times the entire clutch kit might be 100-200$ while just the bearing is $50-90 ...
