In Video Games and Movies when a character is invisible there is still a hazy silhoutte of the person. I once heard the name of this "effect" but can't recall it. Anyone know?
The answer I'm looking for is something like "the _____ effect" and if someone could tell me why it happens, that would be amazing!

In photography it's called "The Kirlian Effect" , the spelling might be wrong though. It's residual heat but only lasts a moment. - A leaf hanging from a tree , with kirlian photography a pic is taken just after the leaf is removed , where it was is still an image.

Nothing living is ever really gone , it degrades into something else.

Movies in which things are invisible are pure fiction. However there is some logic as to why you can still "see" them.

There are two ways in which invisibility might have a chance at actually working. One would be to bend space so that light from behind the object, is bent around it. We see this effect with gravitational lensing...this happens when light from a very distant object passes a very massive structure, like a large galaxy cluster. We are permitted to see the distant object this way, but it's always distorted. We have not been able to achieve this ourselves.

Another way would be to make something transparent by causing the electrons in orbit around it's atoms to ignore the photons. There have been experiments involving lasers which have had some success with this using certain materials on a small scale.

In movies and video games, they do it so that the audience can tell that there is a person there. However, these people are obviously not perceived by other characters, so this effect must not really be visible.

It looks like the way light would behave if the person were clear and have a different index of refraction as air. The light would be bent as it passes through them.
