Hi there.

Once you have a bad track or bad sector, there's probably a reason for it, and there's not much you can do to get it back. It's probably defective physically, and the computer had that area block from being written to for safety/security reasons.

You can try fdisk(ing) or "format /u" the drive and see if you still get that error. (Note the "/u" in the format command means, to force-recheck/retest all your "bad" sectors.) If so, you're out of luck.

You can also do a Scandisk as well, depending on what version of Operating System you're using.

If you do get an error, i'd advise strongly against using that drive for storing very important stuff, and get a new drive.

Hope this helps

No, it does no longer. you could attempt reinstalling the working equipment. XP or Vista will test the stress for blunders earlier than installation. they're going to "tag" the undesirable sectors so as that no tries are made to place in writing to them interior the destiny (subsequently no longer producing blunders). it extremely is approximately all you're able to do with out appearing a low point format (which does no longer restoration them ... only hides them completely). FYI - low point formatting isn't for computing device beginners. you will possibly be able to desire to very actual render the HD completely unusable. regards, Philip T

Depends. First do a defrag, then do a RECOVERY. if the recovery does not reformat your drive then you are in serious trouble. But I do think that doing a recovery should reformat the drive.
