Hello, so I had a couple of questions. I'm on my second bearded dragon. My first one died mysteriously when I found him on his back with paralysis in his back limbs. We put him down and about 6 months aftwerward I got a new one. Other than being aggressive, (which is starting to annoy me how do i get rid of that?) his tail is almost black, he's an orange beardie so i don't think that's normal. Do any of you know about that happening? and what I should do to help him out?

it's normal for them to act aggressive this time of year. they just came out of brumation this is very similiar to hibernation and if he is head bobbing and head butting it is part of there dominance dance. basicaly i am full of energy and it's time to breed. orange is a normal color also. I recently found out blue is ok too. it's in there breeding the different variations are called morphs. if you handle him alot you will tame the aggressiveness and this time of year is a good time to start but don't expect a great deal of response. its kind of like packing a kid with sugar and caffein and expecting them to sit still. not going to happen. enjoy his action look them up on the web and find out what head bobbing, arm waving, head butting etc. means. learn from your mistakes go through the websites find what you did wrong with the previous dragon and do not repeat them. if your pet dies premature something was done wrong and it's your responsibility to correct it and make sure it never happens again. take your beardie in at the very least every 6 month for a wellness checkup. then follow the vets advice and his recommendations. go to the website below and read it carefully follow each and every direction these are tried and true methods that work.

I do agree that you should do some research; however PLEASE do not do what she says and get rid of your uv bulb!! beardies HAVE TO HAVE UVA and UVB light to absorb calcium. The orange is most likely normal. Many beardies have different colors; these are called morphs. Some are red, or orange, or yellow, and some have lavendar side bars, etc. There are more color variations then you can imagine! If the tail has been like that for a while it could be that it is a bad shed; and it needs to come off really bad; you can give him a bath and up the humidity until the dead skin comes off.
It also could be tail damage. If a hatchling injures his tail bad enough it will turn black and fall off. If you think that this is the case; please take him to a qualified herp vet immediatly because it may need to be amputated.

Check out www.beardeddragon.org On the top of the page it says "disscussion forum" click that; then scroll down to "photo expressions" check out some pictures of other peoples beardies for some color variations; you will see if your color is normal or not. If you have a digital camera; upload a picture to www.photobucket.com, then that site will give you 3 links under your photo. select and copy the last one; then paste it in a new topic on beardeddragon.org photo expressions section. (you have to register with the site first) But it is hard for me to diagnose you without a picture; so post it there; and I will keep a lookout for it. And there are many knowledgable people who can help as well.

Along with the info Trisha supplied you with - getting rid of any reptiles aggression comes from holding them more often. I always loved holding the one I played with to my chest and petting it. Love those beardies.

Partial paralysis is often a sign of feeding too large of food for the young dragons.

Please read these caresheets to know how to care for your present one:

i suggest u research ur animal before getting it, bc this exactly wut happens, im sorry i cant help you because i never had a beadrie before. but i DID have an iguana and the reason the tail gets black because of too much UV rays i nthe light bulb, that is why we used black light instead or a smal light bulb. i would pick up a reptile book and read it over and give the vet a call they dont charge to edknowledge u on such things. i hope the best of u and ur beardie
