Here are some practical suggestions to avoid having an overblown ego.
"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face. Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all thine acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility."

Why would you want to avoid ego? You should cultivate a healthy ego. Some people have an overblown ego (they're usually the ones driving big gas-guzzlers, overcompensating for something...) Just don't be cocky. Be humble. Celebrate your strengths, admit your weaknesses, follow your dreams, stand up for what you believe in. Love yourself. If you get around to it, love others.

What's wrong with that? If you have no ego it means you don't like yourself & that's not healthy. You've got to love yourself. It's necessary for survival. You'll never be happy without it.

1.Firstly think the universe. All the living & non living objects that makes the universe. U see crores of human beings, animals-big and small-flies, insects, birds of different sizes, snakes, worms and a lot more. There are plants, trees, creepers and so on. Apart from this U see uncountable non living objects. Please add the water living fish and animals. U weigh all these on one hand and yourself on the other. Think how small u are feel it and realise it. Think it over- how small the life is- our importance is all but nothing when compared to the rest of the universe. Thinking us as Big gives us nothing and denies us the love of others. On the contrary U think others as big and give them the respect and feel the happiness it gives you. Isn't it different. Then consider others as equal to you. It gives you more pleasure, they start loving you and the whole world become sweeter for not only you but others as well. You also start meditating. This the best medicine to cure ego. You can discover yourself through meditation. You will find that U r the part of his almighty. That revelance is the best invention one can make.

Such is a question whose answer yields no solution.

Why? 'Because the ego is an essential part of the "mind stuff" and crucial to the development of the individual, without which existence its opposite quality, humility, cannot exist.

You 'can' "avoid" an imbalance of the ego, however, which has an intrinsic power and polarity. But too much or too little initiates problems within the individual and thereby the outlying world.

What you are really asking here is, How can we avoid an unbalanced ego from occurring in ourselves?

Depending on the individual and his or her level of power, the ego can either create a universe or wipe one out. It is of itself neutral, not unlike electricity, which can be used for good ends or destructive ends.

The ego, therefore, by its very nature is part of nature, and not that of the spiritual worlds, except that the spiritual worlds are its (the ego's) benefactor and creator.

As part of the mind, it is meant to serve of the purposes for which it was created -- to serve as a driving force and a foil to ensure momentum in the consciousness of the individual, which aim is balance and true humility in all that can be performed.

Ego of itself is part of one's lower nature, which, again, in itself is neither negative or positive.

Like children, we have to learn to handle it so that it does no harm to ourselves or any things.

Thus, there exists the harmonius force and the not so. In any case, ego is not something that can be avoided because it cannot be. Such is not its intrinsic design with respect to the worlds of duality, which design for life in this universe and on Earth is nothing if not one of duality.

Rather, it is meant to facilitate growth and ascension, and little could be accomplished without its native force in this world. It is as practical to the makeup and purpose of the mind as are legs to the purpose of movement and good health of the human body.

If you think that what you are is with the grace and mercy of some Almighty and you have nothing of your own; you could have been much much inferior to what you are; so be content with what you have will perhaps melt your excess ego. It needs practice. You can not nulify your ego absolutely, because without ego you can not do anything, some amount of ego is needed also.

Have respect towards your fellow beings. Try to listen to others.Do not underestimate people. If you have a mind set that tells you always that you know everything and others are infinitesimal speck , better change that attitude.Try to become more humble even if you know so many things. Interact with people quite often and try to know people, their way of thinking, their sentiments etc. Respect these sentiments. The ego within you will vanish like the mist in the morning sun.

By believing in the TRUTH that YOU are the SOUL that created the small you, me and everything else. This will enable you to think of the small you as a mere imagination and you will be able to do away with the ego. It will also enable you to respect each creature of the word as all are YOUr ideas and hence have the same status quo.

There are various degrees or intensities to this 'ego' problem !
Maintaining an awareness of this ego is the best way to avoid it. This awareness might look too simple, but with experience, one can notice how difficult it is to maintain it, and the rich rewards of doing it. See, ego is just about self, and maintaining its awareness implies self-awareness (please do not mistake it to be self-centered... just the awareness, and going about our normal way as usual).
This is an experiential thing, and with some patience , a person can 'see' for oneself how beautifully it works !
Best wishes.

Friend,
you can not AVOID EGO.

yo can analytically , understand and realise what exactly Ego is Then you can overcome it.

It is nothing but the ''I ''feeling.(Ahamkaaram)

What is that ''I'' in you?

Is it your Head,Brain, eyes, ears, legs, hands, mouth etc etc...you understand slowly that nothing in the physical frame or body id called 'I''.

You will experience the real driving force (Chaitanya or Praana Shakti )..gradually the Ego vanishes to dominate.
You become humble and humane.

God bless you.

Ego is your inner self which has emerged from all your experiences in this world right from your birth.

If you recognize that your Ego or behavior is what you learned from or understand this world, then you realize why you are behaving like this.

Once, you realize why you are doing something, you can always control your actions.
